History of the Scholarship
The Zada Bird Brannen Scholarship was established November 2, 1974 and named for Mrs. Zada B. Brannen (1900-1979), wife of W. Lawton Brannen. Mrs. Brannen was the first president of The Huguenot Society of Georgia and active in many civic, patriotic, and lineage societies. This college scholarship is awarded to one or more qualified applicants each year.
Application Requirements
Complete the application and submit it with the required supporting materials by July 1
Prepare a short statement (topic specified on the application form)
Be of good moral character
Be of direct lineal descent from a Huguenot ancestor
Be of the Protestant faith
Submit evidence of acceptance or enrollment at a college or university for the upcoming term
If submitting a renewal application, submit evidence of successful completion of most recent semester
Award Amount
The number of awards and individual award amounts vary depending on several factors including the number of applicants and the spendable dividends earned from the endowed fund. Since its inception, the Society has cumulatively awarded over $54,000 to students pursuing their post-secondary education. Twenty percent of the aid given from this fund is to be used at a college or university that is supported in part by the Georgia Baptist Convention.
Application Due Date
Applications and supporting materials are due by July 1 of each year. Notification letters will be mailed by August 1.
Scholarship Committee
The current President, Registrar, and Immediate Past President of The Huguenot Society of Georgia. The scholarship is administered by the Georgia Baptist Foundation, Inc. in coordination with The Huguenot Society of Georgia. Direct questions about the scholarship to treasurer@huguenotga.org
