The Huguenot Society of Georgia
Welcome to our Huguenot Society of Georgia website. Are you descended from a French Huguenot ancestor? We invite you to explore your ancestry and learn more about our lineage society.
Huguenots were Protestants who fled from religious persecution in France during the 16th and 17th century to many parts of the world. As scholars, theorists, highly skilled craftsmen, and artisans, many sought refuge in America, carrying with them enduring values of courage, independence, and devotion of liberty – principles that would later become the very foundation of the American spirit. Numerous U.S. Presidents were of proven Huguenot descent!
The Huguenot Society of Georgia is under the umbrella of The National Huguenot Society. Visit the National (nationalhuguenotsociety.org) and our state websites for a list of qualified ancestors (under Resources). Additionally, The Register of Qualified Ancestors of The National Huguenot Society has been placed across Georgia in all major libraries with genealogy sections for your perusal and ready reference. (The sixth edition is now being published, listing many new qualifying ancestors and generations of their descendants. As soon as available, this edition will soon be placed in the 19 Georgia Genealogical Libraries, the Georgia and National Archives in Clayton County, and the Georgia Historical Society in Savannah.)
Our society offers a yearly calendar of captivating events with two membership meetings (last Saturday in March and the first Saturday in August) featuring highly acclaimed historical speakers, group tours to former Huguenot settlements, and collegiate and youth scholarships. We celebrate our Huguenot heritage with members and guests. Join us!
